2009 marks the 75th anniversary of Minn Kota® Motors. That’s 75 years of innovation. Of power. 75 years on the water, with the best-built trolling motors in the world. And we’re just getting started.
Where We’ve Been: The History of Minn Kota Motors
The Minn Kota electric trolling motor began its life in 1934 in Fargo, North Dakota. Mr. O. G. Schmidt, inventor of the trolling motor, was known to be a man of many diverse ideas. Prior to the trolling motor, Mr. Schmidt invented, produced and sold a copper soldering torch from his home in Wheatland, North Dakota. Due to its success, manufacturing operations were then moved to Fargo. Because of its proximity to the MINNesota – North DaKOTA border, Mr. Schmidt named the business The Minn Kota Manufacturing Company.
Since its founding, Minn Kota has led the way in product innovation and cutting-edge technology. Our list of Minn Kota “firsts” supports this commitment to trolling motor development and the fishing community.
Boat control and positioning are everything. The quicker and more effectively you can position yourself on a bank, weedbed or flat, the better your chance of reeling in what you’re after.
That's why we built our shallow water anchor to deploy faster, hold stronger and outperform the competition at every turn. Talon puts you on top of the fish and keeps you there, end of story. And it’s built with the legendary durability and performance of Minn Kota, along with exclusive innovations that no other shallow water anchor can touch.
Mounting Talon is as easy as mounting a trolling motor, no matter how your transom is configured. Check out our Talon Adapter Bracket Selection Guide to select the best way to mount yours.
Get in and out of the water with ease, without being detected. Riptide ST raises the bar with whisper-quiet operation and intelligently designed features.
We put Riptide® ST to the test, because we know you will. After thousands of hours of research and field testing, we made it quiet enough to give you the drop on fish and tough enough to withstand the most extreme conditions. We know saltwater anglers never turn down a challenge. As it turns out, neither do we.
